NORMAL, Ill. -
The Illinois State Redbird men's and women's tennis teams hosted a social at the Evergreen Raquet Club for members of the club, friends of ISU tennis and tennis enthusiasts from 4-7 p.m., Saturday. The event allowed guests to socialize with the players and coaches, as well as provided an opportunity to take the courts against the Redbirds.
Men's tennis head coach Cris James was thrilled by the success of the event.
"The goal for today was to gain support for the teams," James said. "We would love to get more involved with the Evergreen Raquet Club. This was a great opportunity to allow the student-athletes to meet club members and for ISU to show what excellent teams we have this year."
Head coach Chris Hoover was equally excited about the event.
"The event went great," Hoover said. "It was a great chance to build and grow a relationship with the community and show off the abilities of our players. Hopefully, we can make it an annual event."
The owner of Evergreen Raquet Club, Ben Snyder, is looking forward to continuing to build a relationship with ISU tennis.
"It went well," Snyder said. "This is the first time I've gotten a chance to see the Redbirds play in a couple of years. I'm looking forward to going out and watching both the teams in the spring."
The men's team will be back in action Jan. 15, 2012 at Notre Dame, Ind., while the women's team will begin their spring season Jan. 21, 2012 at Champaign, Ill.
