Early Selected for U.S. Women's A2 Program

Illinois State sophomore setter Kaitlyn Early was one of 48 athletes selected to compete in the U.S. Women's National A2 Program for 2012.

Early was selected by a committee of coaches and staff after her performance at the USA Volleyball national team open tryouts in February. The 48 U.S. Women's National A2 Team Program selected players from 34 different collegiate programs including, eight liberos, 12 middle blockers, 14 outside hitters, six opposites and eight setters.

The Wildwood, Mo., native ranked second on the team in assists (135), assists per set (3.75) and appeared in 18 matches in the 2011 season. She recorded a career-high 45 assists against Idaho State (9/9) and compiled a career-high 14 digs and her first double-double (13 assists/14 digs) at Missouri State (9/16).

Early will join the A2 squad June 26th at Ohio Dominican University in Columbus and matches will be held June 30 to July 4 during the USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships (GJNC) at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The the 48 athletes will be divided into four teams of 12 players that will play one match per day during the GJNC. All matches will be A2 competing against each other in a round-robin format followed by a semifinal and final round.

In addition to the new competition format, the U.S. Women's National A2 Program expanded from 36 players to 48 players in 2012.
