NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State men's golf team will travel to Zionsville, Ind., to compete at the Wolf Run Golf Club for the Wolf Run Intercollegiate hosted by Indiana. The three-round intercollegiate will be played Saturday (36-holes) and Sunday (18-holes). Teams will start the 71-par course both days by with a 7:30 a.m. (CST), shotgun start.
Taking what the Redbirds learned at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate, head coach Ray Kralis is confident in his team's ability to stay focused as it heads into the Wolf Run Intercollegiate.
"It was important to continue the momentum from last spring with a strong showing at the Weibring Intercollegiate, and we have a great opportunity in front of us this weekend, competing against a strong field on a challenging golf course," Kralis said. "I am confident in our skill level against any field as long as we stay out of our own way and stay focused in the present. While this will be a great measuring stick and an event everyone is looking forward to, I am more interested in how we do relative to our potential as we compete from start to finish."
Along with Illinois State, Indiana will be hosting 12 teams, including Auburn, Illinois, IPFW, IUPUI, Kentucky, Miami (OH), Minnesota, Northern Illinois, Oakland, Ohio, Toledo and Wisconsin.
The Redbirds competing this weekend will include Parker Freiburg, who tied for fourth place in the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate, as well as Wils Hawn, Jordan Fahel, Tyler Gentilella, and Kyle Meihofer.
Illinois won the Wolf Run Intercollegiate last year with a team score of 855 (289-278-288), only three strokes less than Indiana, who finished with an 858 (284-284-290).
