Men's Tennis Hits the road to Face St. John's and Penn

Feb. 20, 2014

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Illinois State men's tennis team returns to action after a week of practices to face St. John's Friday, Feb. 21 at 11 a.m. CT, and Penn Sunday, Feb. 23 at 10 a.m. CT. This is first time the Redbirds have traveled to face the Red Storm and the Quakers at their respective home courts in program history.

Jacob Wilson will look to build on a Feb. 8 victory over Western Michigan, where he dominated No. 2 singles over Ruben Greiner, 6-4, 6-2. He also teamed up with newcomer Urh Kranjc Domiter to secure a doubles victory over Michael Tries and Andrew Cahn, 6-2.

Head coach Mark Klysner knows his team will be challenged with the talent of St. John's and Penn

"We are paying two very good teams this weekend. I know the guys are excited to play at the U.S. open site." Klysner said. "We will be ready to go and compete at a higher level than we have thus far."

The Redbirds' next nine matches are all on the road, which marks the longest consecutive matches on the road since 1997-98 season, where Illinois State played 10.
