Illinois State kicked off the 2014 season last weekend at the Oregon Tournament in Eugene, Oregon. The Redbirds topped Central Arkansas in a four-set match on Aug. 29, before splitting a pair of five-set matches with Ohio State and host Oregon on Aug. 30. The Redbirds battled back from 2-1 deficits against both squads; they rallied for a win over the Buckeyes, but fell just short against the Ducks.
Redbirds Ashley Rosch and Emily Schneider were named to the all-tournament team in Oregon. Both came within one of matching their career-high totals in kills, while helping the Redbirds to a 2-1 record.
All five teams at the Missouri Tiger Invitational are off to solid starts, with no team owning a losing record. Xavier boasts a 3-0 mark after posting three wins at the Queen City Invitational. Missouri and Lipscomb are both 2-1. Oakland is 2-2.
Missouri and Lipscomb are both receiving votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 Poll.
