MADISON, Wis. – Coming off a fourth-place finish after the first day of the Badger Invitational, the Redbirds find themselves in 10th place, falling four places on the team leaderboard after shooting a team score of 312 in the second round.
Head coach Ray Kralis is looking for the Redbirds to put their second round performance behind them and focus on tomorrow's final round of golf.
"It seemed like we either got off to a tough start or struggled as we finished, and as a result, we didn't get one good score when we needed a solid team effort. We can't waste time feeling sorry for ourselves and need to work through this adversity," Kralis said. "We'll get some work in today after the round and keep the bigger picture in mind."
Senior Tyler Gentilella led the Redbirds in the second round, shooting a 76 for the day. Sophomore Zach Burry and freshman Trent Wallace tied for 52nd on the individualist leaderboard, both finishing one stroke back of Gentilella and carding a second round score of 77. Freshman Michael Mounce ended the day ten strokes over par (82) while junior Christian Crabill rounded out the Redbird's team score with an 86.
Sophomore Steven Mullins led the Rebirds in individual play, posting a 78 on the day, followed by junior Kyle Meihofer (79), and sophomore Jason Marrs (80).
Following the second round of play, Miami (Ohio) maintained its lead, shooting a 290 for the day with a team total of 568. Second place Kansas is just one-stroke back of the lead with a team score of 569 and Ball State is sitting in third place with a team score of 585. ISU is in 11th place heading into the third and final round of the tournament.
The final round of the tournament will be on Tuesday, beginning with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.
