RIO DE JANEIRO – Former Illinois State men's basketball player Champ Oguchi is representing Nigeria at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
After transferring from Oregon, Oguchi played his final season of college basketball at Illinois State. During his senior campaign in 2008-09, Oguchi led the Redbirds in scoring by averaging 15.2 points per game along with 5.4 rebounds per contest. For his efforts, Oguchi earned All-Missouri Valley Conference Second-Team recognition and was named MVC Newcomer of the Year.
A native of Houston, Texas, Oguchi's parents both immigrated to the United States from Nigeria, allowing Oguchi to have dual citizenship.
