Redbirds Open Fall Season at WMU Vredevelt Invitational

NORMAL, Ill. – For the first tournament of the fall season, the Illinois State men's tennis team will travel to Kalamazoo, Michigan, to compete in the Western Michigan Vredevelt Invitational, Sept. 24-25.

"We are very excited to play our first event of the fall," head coach Mark Klysner said. "It will be good to get the guys some match play, especially for our two freshman to see how they acclimate to college tennis."

This is not the team's first appearance at the Western Michigan Vredevelt Invitational. Last year, Christoffer Greve achieved his second fall title at this tournament after defeating Charlie Emhardt from Valparaiso in the Flight C singles championship match. Dylan Steffens and Greve also earned second place in the Flight C Doubles championship bracket.

Competition will get underway at 9 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday will consist of one round of doubles and two rounds of singles matches and Sunday will consist of two rounds of doubles and one round of singles matches. The tournament will be held at Sorenson Courts.

The Redbird men's tennis team has five returning players, four of which are upperclassmen. The squad also features two new freshman along with a new graduate assistant coach.
