ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Illinois State volleyball senior Kaity Weimerskirch was named the Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week following her performances against Missouri State (October 28) and Southern Illinois (October 29), as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Weimerskirch led the MVC with 46 digs on the weekend. Weimerskirch's 6.57 digs/set led the MVC by more than a full dig (next closest was Serena Sparks from Bradley at 5.44).
Weimerskirch tallied 12 digs in the second set of the Redbirds' match against Missouri State, a match in which she recorded 24 digs (second-most in the MVC for three-set match this season; 28 by Drake's Jada Wills on 10/22/22 also against Missouri State).
The senior was also a perfect 32/32 receiving while tallying 13 assists and four service aces on the weekend.
Weimerskirch has now earned the MVC Defensive Player of the Week honor three times in her career (10/18/21 and 11/11/19).
Illinois State hosts UNI (13-0 in the MVC) on November 4 and against Drake (11-2 in the MVC) on November 5.
