ST. LOUIS – Following a pair of strong outings last weekend, graduate guard Paige Robinson has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Robinson averaged 26.5 points per game for Illinois State as the Redbirds went 1-1 at home with a win over Southern Illinois Friday before dropping their matchup with Missouri State Sunday.
The Bethany native made 16-of-35 shots for the week (45.7%) and was 6-of-15 (40.0%) from long range while averaging six and a half rebounds on the week with four assists, one block, and one steal. Against the Salukis, she would go for a game-high 23 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the field while grabbing eight rebounds, dishing out four assists, and went a perfect 7-of-7 from the free-throw line over her 35 minutes of action.
In the finale of the week against Missouri State, she once more would hold the game-high in points, scoring 30 (22 in the second half) off 9-of-19 shooting from the field, 4-of-9 from three-point range, and 8-of-9 from the charity stripe. Robinson would also gather three rebounds, one block, and one steal. The 30 point effort ties the third-highest single game scoring effort in a Valley game this season, joining Southern Illinois' Ashley Jones v. Drake on Jan. 26 and Murray State's Katelyn Young at Indiana State on Jan. 29.
This is the third Newcomer of the Week accolade for Robinson as a Redbird, and first since being recognized as Newcomer of the Week in November.

The Redbirds are on the road for a two-game tilt in Iowa, starting with a matchup against UNI on Thursday. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. from the McLeod Center between the Redbirds and Panthers.
