Trio of Matches Await Redbirds in Kalamazoo and Bloomington

NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State men's tennis team returns to action this weekend with three matches in two days, as they head to Kalamazoo, Mich. to face Western Michigan Friday before hosting Marquette and Saint Ambrose from the Evergreen Racquet Club Sunday.

The Redbirds and Broncos get started at noon Friday. Then, Sunday will see ISU and Marquette face off at noon before it is the Redbirds and Fighting Bees getting started at 4 p.m. Sunday evening.

In their last action of the spring, Illinois State was in the Natural State (Arkansas) as they met up against Arkansas Fort-Smith before having a doubleheader against SEC powerhouse, Arkansas.

Against Arkansas Fort-Smith, ISU jumped out to the early lead by winning the doubles point. The momentum continued into singles as the Redbirds saw Nam Pham clinch the win at no. 1 with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Anis Ramchane.

Meanwhile, in Fayetteville, the Razorbacks were strong at home and picked up a pair of 4-0 wins over the Redbirds at Billingsley Tennis Center.

The Broncos of Western Michigan welcome ISU into Kalamazoo after dropping their last four matches, with their closest result coming against fellow Summit League member, Drake on Feb. 17. The last win for WMU came on Jan. 27, a road win over Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind.

For Marquette, the Golden Eagles face Wisconsin on Thursday before making the trip to Normal to see the Redbirds. This spring, Marquette has gone 0-8 as they have not won a road match, dropping results at Drake and at Georgetown.

Finally, Saint Ambrose is 5-2 this spring as they come to Normal after suffering a loss to the Milwaukee School of Engineering back in September. Sunday marks the first spring match for the Fighting Bees program.
