BLOOMINGTON, IN. – Looking to rebound after a tough Summit League opening loss, Illinois State men's tennis is back on the road as they go head-to-head with Indiana Friday. The Redbirds and Hoosiers hold first serve at 3:15 p.m. CT from the IU Tennis Center.
Illinois State was in action last Saturday as they dropped a road match to Summit League foe North Dakota.
The doubles action was highly contested, as North Dakota got the first match result with a 7-5 win at no. 1 over ISU's Arvid Hjalte and Adrian Dibildox. Then, the Hawks gained the doubles point with another 7-5 result, this time at no. 3 against ISU's Dominic Anderson and Dominick Cuchran. The no. 2 result went unfinished as Tin Ostro and Emiliano Gonzales led 6-5 before the match was stopped.
In singles action, the Redbirds picked up a victory at the No. 5 spot from Adrian Dibildox over ND's Odell in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 as well at no. 6 with Gonzales picking up a 6-4, 6-2 win over ND's Hong. However, three of the remaining four match results were straight set victories for the home team.
This spring, Indiana has gone 9-5 (9-1 at home) with their lone home defeat coming to #23 Louisville on Feb. 17. Since the loss, IU has picked up a win over Western Michigan but come into Friday on a two-match losing skid (#24 Cornell and #64 Princeton).
Sam Landau is leading the charge in singles this spring, as he has gone 7-1 so far. Meanwhile in doubles for the Hoosiers, it is Ekansh Kumar and Luka Vukovic with a 9-3 record to hold the most wins for the team.
