ST. LOUIS – Fifth-year senior Emme Olson was one of 12 student-athletes honored with the spring edition of the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Good Neighbor Award the conference announced on Tuesday.
Olson had an incredible year both on and off the field as she was named the 2022-23 MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year and she earned All-MVC First Team accolades for the first time in her career. She boasts an impressive 4.0 cumulative grade point average in her Integrated MPA (accounting) program while also cementing her name in numerous categories in the Redbird Softball record book across her five seasons at Illinois State.
Not only is she an amazing advocate for Illinois State and its legendary softball program, but she is also heavily involved in her surrounding community and making a positive impact on those around her. Olson participated in numerous community service activities including Team Impact, Operation Christmas Child, Illinois State Curb Birds, Parkside Elementary and Westminster Village volunteer, and Day of the Dozer.
The MVC created the Good Neighbor Award in an effort to honor the achievements of expectational student-athletes. In order to be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be in good academic standing, must demonstrate good citizenship through good sportsmanship and significant community service, and must participate in a sport, during the season of recognition. The Valley will recognize 12 student-athletes three times annually (Fall, Winter, Spring), for a total of 36 honorees. Institutions select their State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award honorees.
