Redbird XC Squads Finish 6th (W) and 2nd (M) At MVC Championships

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Illinois State University Cross Country team completed its MVC Championship race Friday afternoon at the Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

The women's team earned a sixth-place finish with a point total of 126 while the men's squad claimed a second-place finish with a point total of 51.

Senior Mattison Plummer was the highest-finishing Redbird with an 11th-place finish. Plummer recorded the fastest time in program history in the 6k with a mark of 20:41.5. Junior Maggie Reed joined Plummer in breaking into the program's top-10 list with a time of 21:03.2 for seventh all-time.

Fifth-year William Sinclair claimed the individual title in the 8k with a mark of 23:02.9 which set the new school record in the 8k beating teammate Mathis Chavand (23:20.9). Sinclair became the first Redbird to claim an individual championship since Kevin Koski (2021). Chavand came home second to secure a 1-2 finish for the Redbirds with a personal time of 23:16.5. Senior Zack Loomis recorded the third fastest time in program history with a mark of 23:32.5 en route to a fourth place. Junior Yusuf Baig ran a time of 23:51.0 to become the fourth Redbird to finish within the top-10 with a tenth-place finish. Baig also recorded the fifth-fastest time in school history.

The six record breaking times is the most by any Redbird squad at a single event.
