NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State Women's Basketball head coach Kristen Gillespie announced the addition of Morgan Bruno (Chicago, Ill.) for the upcoming 2024-2025 campaign.
Bruno helped guide Loyola Academy to an undefeated record and IHSA Class 4A State championship at CEFCU Arena in her senior campaign. Loyola Academy became just the third girls' basketball team in state history to complete a 38-0 season, highlighted by their 44-40 win against Nazareth Academy in the Class 4A title game.
The 5-11 guard appeared in 34 games for the Ramblers, including the 4A State title game at CEFCU Arena in March.
Morgan is the granddaughter of Women's Basketball Hall of Famer and DePaul head coach Doug Bruno, who has guided the Blue Demons to over 750 wins in his 38 seasons at the helm of the program. Her mother, Stacy (Krumrei) is a former player for Doug Bruno at DePaul.
Illinois State returns a strong core for next season, which will be highlighted by All-MVC Freshman Team selection Shannon Dowell and veteran point guard Maya Wong. Former NCAA Division III National Player of the Year Elyce Knudsen (Millikin), Addi Martin (Abilene Christian) and All-MVC Freshman team selection Nevaeh Thomas (Evansville) also joined Illinois State for the upcoming campaign.
The Redbirds are coming off a WNIT Super 16 appearance last year, which marked the program's fourth-straight bid in the postseason. Illinois State earned a 20-win campaign for the second-straight season, the first time since 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 that Illinois State has secured 20-win seasons in consecutive campaigns.
