NORMAL, Ill. – Five home games, three contests against Big Ten opponents, and four neutral site games highlight the 2025-26 Illinois State men's basketball schedule, announced on Thursday morning.
The Redbirds play a pair of exhibitions against Big Ten schools, traveling to Illinois (Oct. 19) and Northwestern (Oct. 29), with a regular-season game against USC – ISU's first game against a Big Ten school since the 2021-22 season.
at Illinois (Exhibition) – October 19
Illinois State will unofficially open the 2025-26 season with an exhibition game in Champaign against the Illini. The schools have met eight times previously during the regular season, and just three times since 2000.
at Northwestern (Exhibition) – October 29
This season ISU has a pair of exhibition games, with the second of the two being an October 29 game at Northwestern. This exhibition is the first year of a home-and-home exhibition series with the Wildcats, who are coached by Chris Collins, son of Redbird legend Doug Collins. ISU and Northwestern have met five times previously during the regular season, with the Redbirds holding a 3-2 lead in the all-time series.
at Ohio – November 6
The Redbirds open the 2025-26 regular season on Thursday, November 6, when the team travels to Athens, Ohio, for the second half of a home-and-home series with the Ohio Bobcats. Last season the schools met inside CEFCU Arena, as the Redbirds picked up an 85-75 win on November 12. The Bobcats have two starters and five letterwinners returning for this season, highlighted by Jackson Paveletzke and Aidan Hadaway, each of whom averaged double-figure points last season.

A return game from last season's home-and-home series with the Big Red has an Ivy League men's basketball team playing at Illinois State for the first time in program history. Last season the Redbirds won in Ithaca by an 80-77 score, and the Big Red are led by Illinois natives Cooper Noard (Glenview) and Jake Fiegen (Wilmette), who are also the top two returning scorers for the Big Red.

The Redbirds head to the West Coast for the first time since 2016-17, as ISU will take on the Big Ten's University of Southern California at the Intuit Dome, the home of the Los Angeles Clippers. Back for the Trojans are a trio of student-athletes who played a combined nine games last season, highlighted by Terrance Williams II, who played in seven games last season – starting six – before missing the remainder of the season due to injury.

The first meeting between the two programs comes in November, as Coastal Carolina makes its inaugural trek to Normal, Illinois.
