After winning the consolation crown last weekend, Brigette Zarazee of the Illinois State womens tennis team took top honors in Flight E of the 2000 Eck Classic.
The senior from Michigan City, Ind., defeated Western Michigans Marianna Quintanilla in two sets, 7-6 (4), 6-3.
Zarazee was also playing for the Flight C doubles championship with Shelby Lipson this morning. The Birds No. 3 duo fell just short of winning its second title in as many tournaments, coming up short against Notre Dames Day/Hamilton, 9-7.
Lipson, playing in the same singles bracket as Zarazee, lost in the third-place match to Taryn Bowen of Ohio State (6-3, 7-5) to take fourth.
Freshman Elizabeth Bingier upended Natalie Matko from DePaul in the seventh-place math of Flight D singles (6-4, 6-4).
The Birds return to action next weekend at the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships, hosted by Southwest Missouri State.
