The Illinois State mens tennis team raced out to a 6-1 lead and hung on for a 6-4 victory over Virginia despite dropping all three doubles matches at the Navy Invite Sunday.
The Naval Academy Invite wrapped up today with Illinois State finishing play with Virginia in the doubles round of the duals.
Ricky Heath and Yew Ming Si fell to Tom Croker and Brian Hunter, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles.
Virginias Jason Romesburg and Mike Duquette barely took victory over Brent Steven and Albert Piasecki, 9-8, at the No. 2 slot.
Jason Smit and Andrew Martin were defeated by Jonathan Chou and Greg Alpert, 8-5, at the No. 3 position.
Illinois State were victorious at the Naval Academy Invite claiming all wins against the other three competing schools: Oklahoma, Navy and today against Virginia.
