Diver Andrea Lovelle and football player Adam Waugh were honored as Illinois States Scholar Athletes of the Year, and 144 Redbirds were cited for academic achievement during the State Farm Student-Athlete Excellence Banquet at Redbird Arena, Sunday.
Lovelle, a senior accounting major from Shoreview, Minn., and Waugh, a junior political science major from Libertyville, Ill., both carry perfect cumulative grade point averages of 4.0.
In addition to those awards, 144 student-athletes received recognitionas members of the Anderson Financial Network Incorporated Honor Roll, an ISU athletics honor that goes to student-athletes achieving a minimum semester grade point average of 3.0.
Each student-athlete was accompanied by a faculty member of their choosing.
Some 500 attended the banquet.
Jack North, executive senior vice president of State Farm Insurance Companies, delivered the keynote address. Illinois State University President Dr. Vic Boschini also made remarks, as did ISU Athletics Director Perk Weisenburger.
