Men's Golf In 14th Place at Purina Classic

The Illinois State mens golf team is trailing competition with a 14th place finish after the first day of tournament play at the Missouri-hosted Purina Classic in St. Charles, Mo. Monday. The Redbirds shot a 596 (300, 296) for the day at Missouri Bluff Golf Course. Although the Birds sit at 14th place of a field of 15 teams, todays two-round total of 596 is the teams second best score of the season. The leader of the tournament, host Missouri, shot a 570, while Missouris Mark McBride and Chris Happ sit tied at first with three other players with a score of 139. Leading the Redbirds is Nic Baker tied for sixth place after he shot a 141 (71-70). Dan Cerny follows with a score of 151 (75-76), tied at 59th place, while B.J. Brown is one stroke behind Cerny with a 152 (76-76) tied at 63rd place. Rounding out competition for the Birds were Adam Goldie, tied at 72nd place with a score of 155 (78-77) and Dave Klaas at 82nd place with a 161 (87-74). Final tournament play will resume Tuesday morning with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start.
