Waukegan native Jill Franz has signed a National Letter of Intent this week to play golf and continue her educational career at Illinois State.
Franz comes to ISU with a long string of victories under the instruction of prep coach and father Bob Franz. Among her accomplishments, Franz tied for a 3rd place finish in the 2000 Illinois High School Association State Tournament with a score of 159 (78-81).
Franz also captured a first place victory at the IHSA Regional Tournament, shooting a 73 to win by four strokes, accomplished six additional top ten finishes (including a first) in 18-hole high school events in 2000 and three top four finishes in summer junior tournaments.
ISU head coach
Ray Kralis is pleased with Franzs strong consistent play and mental ability. Jill gives the team another proven performer who has the ability to take it deep and win, Kralis said. Her 73, good for a four shot victory at an extremely competitive IHSA Regional, was very impressive and an indication of the type of golf she is capable of playing.
Inside the classroom, Franz has proven her ability through making honor roll and being involved in Student Council. Franz is interested in Liberal Arts and plans to study Theatre at Illinois State.
She has solid fundamentals and controls her mind and emotions well on the golf course, Kralis said. I feel Jill will have an immediate impact on this team and help us to achieve the lofty goals I have set.
