Chalk up another award for Illinois State middle blocker Kendra Haselhorst. The senior middle blocker has been elected to the Verizon Academic All-District V volleyball team.
With a 3.26 grade-point-average majoring in art, Because of a voting tie, Haselhorst is joined by five other Missouri Valley players, two from Ball State and one representing the Big Ten. The squad usually features six players and the election is conducted by members of College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The Missouri Valley Conference's all-time kill percentage leader and ISU's all-time blocking leader has been a Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team member for each of the past three years.
Haselhorst, a native of Aviston, Ill. and a graduate of Breese Mater Dei High School, is bidding to become the first player in Valley history to make first- or second-team all-conference all four years.
Haselhorst was joined on the All-District V Team by Bradley's Laura Benzing, Indiana State's Megan Mirs, plus Evansville's Ladi Iya and Julie Groves. All five were First-Team Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team members announced earlier this week. The other three All-District V players are Minnesota's Stephanie Hagen and Ball State's Julie Zykla and Emily Sallee.
All eight will join players from seven other districts on the Academic All-America ballot to be distributed in the next week. District V consists of all Division I schools in Illinois.
