Angie Roth, Chrystal Johnston and Annie Wayland were named to the 2000 All-MVC first team today while six Illinois State soccer players received all-conference honors.
Becky Feldmann, Melissa Colthrust and Sarah Moss were named to the All-Valley second team while Evansvilles Krista McKendree was voted the leagues Most Valuable Player.
Roth, a junior and native of St. Louis, helped lead a Redbird defense that has recorded 10 shutouts in 17 games in 2000, setting the Illinois State record for most shutouts in a season. Johnston, a sophomore from Milton, Ontario, has helped guide the midfield that puts the ball in scoring position, which resulted in the team posting 50 goals, also a school record.
Wayland set her own records this season, with 20 goals, which ties the league record for most goals in a season and sets a new Redbird mark, which she currently held at 14.
Feldmann, a native of OFallon, Ill., has been the mainstay for the Birds between the posts and recently became the career leader in the Valley for most minutes played in a career (5333).
Colthrust, from Mississauga, Ontario, and Moss of Libertyville, Ill., rounded out the Redbird selections. Both have contributed in the midfield and defense and helped hold ISU opponents to just 166 shots this season.
Mick Lyon of Evansville was named Coach of the Year while Kristin Prom, also a Purple Ace received Freshman of the Year honors. Rounding out the player of the year awards was Jennifer Grocki of Southwest Missouri State who was honored with defensive player of the year.
