Despite setting several season and personal best times the Illinois State swimming and diving team fell short, losing to Iowa State 177-117 Saturday at Horton Pool.
Lindsay Crowder took first place in the 100 yard Backstroke with a season-best time of 1:00.47. She also took second place in the 100 yard Freestyle with a time of 54.36. Crowder took third place in two events the 100 yard Butterfly (1:01.86) and was part of the 200 Medley Relay team that also took third place (1:52.32).
Tiffany Dudley was also a member of the 200 Medley Relay team that took third place.
She finished first in the 200 yard Backstroke with a time of 2:11.01, and fourth in the 100 yard Backstroke with a season best time of 1:02.23.
Andrea Lovelle finished third in the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 227.85 behind Iowa States Linda Wagner (257.32) and Sofie Nilsson (247.95). However in the 3-meter diving competition Andrea Lovelle took first place, finishing with a final score of 272.77. This score allows her to attend the NCAA Zone Championships in Bloomington, IN on March 9-10. There she will have the opportunity to qualify for the National Championships in Long Island, NY, which will take place on March 15-17.
Diving coach Drew Johansen is very impressed with the way Lovelle is diving right now.
She is very consistant, and she is right on track.
Other season best times included Stefanie Starck with a second place finish in the 100 yard Backstroke (1:01.79), DeDe Woytowych with a third place finish in the 200 yard Freestyle (1:59.34), and Amalia Constantinescu in the 500 yard Freestyle (5:23.59). Deborah Birrer swam a personal best time in the 100 yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:12.08.
Next week the Redbirds face off against the Cardinals of Ball State. The meeting will take place on Friday Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. at Ball State. Last year the Redbirds defeated the Cardinals 151-149.
