Senior Cathy Peverly, shortstop on the Illinois State softball team, was named to the 2000 GTE Academic All-District V Softball Team Thursday, May 11.
Peverly, a native of El Paso, Ill., was one of five infielders and 11 players in the region to be named to the team. She will represent District V on the national ballot and the results of the national ballot will be released June 8, 2000.
A member of the 2000 Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete first team, Peverly currently holds a perfect 4.0 GPA and is majoring in Math Education. She was a 1999 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Academic All-American and has been named to the Anderson Financial Network Athletics Honor roll every semester.
Peverly was recently named to the 2000 MVC All-Tournament team where Illinois State won the tournament championship for the first time in five years. She has a current batting average of .224 and has seven doubles and 32 hits on the season. At the conference tournament, Peverly hit .333 in four games and recorded four hits and three RBI.
