Tennessee women's basketball coach Pat Summit was the keynote speaker Sunday night at a dinner in honor of former Illinois State women's basketball coach Jill Hutchison.
The $50 per plate dinner was held to honor Hutchison and to raise funds for an endowed scholarship in the former coach's name. Other fully endowed scholarships now exist under the names of Doug Collins, Milt Weisbecker, Will Robinson, D.A. Weibring and Benoni Green. The scholarship in Hutchison's name is the first of its kind for a female athlete at Illinois State.
Others on hand to honor Hutchison included Illinois State president Dr. Vic Boschini, ISU athletics director Perk Weisenburger, former director of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Betty Jaynes, University of Kansas athletics director Bob Frederick and numerous former players, assistant coaches and rivals.
Corporate sponsors for the event were State Farm Insurance Cos., Clemons and Associates, Country Companies, Illinois Farm Bureau, Growmark, Stark Excavating and Owen Nursery.
