Tina Kramos, a former softball player with coaching experience, was named assistant softball coach at Illinois State University, Thursday. Kramos, who was a four-year member of the Southwest Missouri State softball team from 1990-1995, accepted the position at ISU after a three-year stint at Nicholls State.
As a player for SMS, Kramos was a two-time member of the All-MVC first team and was named to the Valley All-Tournament team her junior season. After a successful run as a student-athlete, Kramos became an assistant coach at Colorado-Colorado Springs before moving to Nicholls State.
Kramos, a current member of the womens major league team Michigan Cruise, filled the position left vacant by former assistant coach Ronnie Marmitt. Marmitt resigned in June after deciding to pursue a different profession.
Head coach
Melinda Fischer said she is excited to have Tina with the Illinois State program because of her knowledge and experience as a player and coach.
Tina will bring great knowledge of the sport to our program and her experiences as a player will really benefit Redbird softball, Fischer said. She is still currently playing, which I think is great, because it helps her to stay on top of the latest techniques and skills in the sport. What she learns as a player as well as what she knows as a coach can only improve our program, so we are extremely pleased to have Tina join our staff.
She was a very strong athlete when she played at Southwest Missouri so she knows the background of being a strong softball player, Fischer continued. She will be a role model for our players as well as a huge addition in terms of level of coaching.
