Redbirds Add Transfer Defensive Lineman

For the second time this summer, Illinois State has landed a transfer defensive lineman from West Virginia University. Osa Nosa, a 6-3, 300-pound defensive tackle from Homestead, Fla., has joined the team for the 2000 season. He has two years of eligibility remaining. Earlier this summer, ISU added Mark Thurston, a defensive end, from the Mountaineer program. We really felt like we needed another inside defensive lineman and Osa fills that need, said ISU head coach Denver Johnson. Between Damian Gregory and Tim Angsten, this team lost some good players up the middle from last years team. We like the returning players we have in those positions, but youre bound to improve your prospects for success anytime you can build numbers and competition. Osa is a big, strong player, who has good agility for his size. Obviously, his job will be to protect our middle against the run, but he can run opponents down, too. Nosa logged four tackles, including one sack, while playing in 15 WVU games over the last two seasons. A South Dade High School product, Nosa was a second-team all-state selection and was rated the third-best prep defensive lineman in the state by Tom Lemming. Including former Kentucky wide receiver Garry Davis, Illinois State has now added three Division I-A transfers during the off-season.
