Armando Andrade, the Illinois State defensive back who broke his leg in the first quarter of Saturdays game at Northern Illinois, underwent surgery Monday, according to ISU head athletic trainer Kathy Schniedwind.
Andrade broke both the tibia and fibula, the two lower leg bones, in his right leg.
He is a patient at BroMenn Regional Medical Center in Normal, where he is expected to for 1-2 days following the surgery.
Due to the fact that Andrade, a senior, has already used a redshirt season, he is not eligible for another year of competition.
Offensive guard Chris Van Gorder, who also was injured in Saturdays game, will be x-rayed today to determine the severity of his right ankle injury. Likewise, quarterback Kevin Glenn will have his right hand x-rayed due to a swollen middle finger. The results of the x-rays may not be known until Tuesday. In both cases, it is hoped that bone chips can be ruled out as the cause for swelling.
It is expected that receiver Garry Davis will be back for Saturdays game at Southeast Missouri State. He did not play at Northern Illinois due to a separated shoulder suffered in the season opener. Schniedwind said no decision had been made yet for this weeks game regarding receiver Wayne Riley, who missed last Saturdays contest with an ankle injury.
