Beyers' Surgery Ends Her Season

The 2000 volleyball season is over for sophomore middle blocker Christy Beyers, who will undergo surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament and maniscus problems in her knee. Beyers, the sister of Redbird basketball player Rich Beyers, had earned a starting spot in the Redbird volleyball lineup before being injured in the third match of the season. A transfer from Bradley, Beyers sat out the 1999 season fulfilling her residency requirement. According to Redbird volleyball athletic trainer Jill Francis, Dr. Rob Seidl will perform the surgery on Beyers in early October. The rehabilitation typically takes between six and nine months. The former Shelbyville High School star was second on the Redbirds in blocking before her injury. She becomes the second Redbird middle to be sidelined for the season, joining Jenny Kabbes, who had shoulder surgery in July. Junior Megan Stephenson, a converted outside hitter, has taken Beyers place in the lineup.
