The Illinois State mens golf team will host its first and only home tournament, the ninth annual D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate, September 18-19 at Crestwicke Country Club in Bloomington, Ill.
There will be a shot-gun start for the two-day tournament at 8:30 a.m. on Monday. On Tuesday tee times are at 8:30 a.m. for holes one and 10. The format for the par 72 course is 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday. Course yardage is 6,750.
The Redbirds won last years tournament with a final score of 877 and are joined in competition this year by Arkansas State, Bradley, Creighton, DePaul, Drake, Eastern Illinois, Evansville, Iowa State, Missouri-Kansas City, Northern Illinois, Northern Iowa, Southeast Missouri, Southern Illinois, Southwest Missouri, St. Louis and Western Illinois.
The Redbirds are coming off of an eighth-place finish at the Nebraska Fairway Club invite. Head coach Harland Kilborn said the quality of practice this week will distinguish an eighth-place finish from a repeat Weibring championship.
Im optimistic that we can turn it around, Kilborn said. I think weve got some better players than what we showed at Nebraska and if we get in a few good days of practice and get the team comfortable with the course, I think well have a chance to put up a good defense of our title from last year.
