In her first appearance in an Intercollegiate Tennis Association Grand Slam event, Illinois State's Alesia Mikalayeva was forced inside as Hurricane Gordon proved to be a stronger opponent than Tulsa Golden Hurricane Alex Durska.
Mikalayeva and Durska had finished warming up when Mother Nature unleashed Gordon at the T. Rowe Price Clay Court Tournament.
The match is rescheduled for early tomorrow morning, as the storm appears to be moving from the site. After her showdown with Durska, Mikalayeva will play in two more matches for a chance at advancing to the Main Draw.
"Alesia was warmed up and ready to go, but then it started raining cats and dogs," head coach Chris Hoover said. "She looked really good this morning, and I think she's going to do very well here. She's a rock on the court."
