The Illinois State men's golf team will travel to Kansas Monday with the momentum of last weekend's D.A. Weibring championship under their belts. The 'Birds will compete in the University of Kansas Invitational at Alvamar Golf Club in Lawrence, Kan., on Monday and Tuesday, September 25 and 26.
At last year's Kansas Invitational, ISU placed fourth of 17 teams with an overall score of 902 (296, 306, 300). This year the field consists of 13 schools, including Arkansas State, Drake, Illinois State, Iowa State, Kansas State, Oral Roberts, Southeast Missouri State, Southwest Missouri State, Missouri, Missouri-Kansas City, Northern Iowa, Texas-Arlington and host Kansas.
The 54-hole tournament will begin with 36 holes on Monday and end with 18 on Tuesday. There will be an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start for first round tournament play on Monday and an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday. Par for the Alvamar course is 72.
The Redbirds are coming off of a first place victory at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate, where they came back from a nine stroke deficit to win the tournament by three strokes. It was the second year in a row the 'Birds seized the championship.
