The Illinois State mens golf team moved up one place from the previous days competition to post an eighth place finish in the Kansas Invitational at Alvamar Golf Club in Lawrence, Kan., on Tuesday.
The Redbirds shot a 913 (307, 307, 299) to tie for eighth with Oral Roberts University.
Northern Iowa, Missouri-Kansas City, Southeast Missouri and Southwest Missouri trailed the Birds at the end of the day.
The top scorer for ISU was B.J. Brown who fired a 227 (73, 78, 76) and landed at a tie for 23rd place. Trailing Brown was Nic Baker tied at 30th place with a total of 229 (78, 79, 72), Adam Goldie tied at 40th place with a final 231 (79, 74, 78) and Dan Cerny tied at 43rd place, one stroke behind Goldie with a 232 (77, 81, 74). Rounding out tournament play for the Birds was Brian Anderson who tied for 49th with a score of 233 (80, 76, 77).
Tournament host, Kansas, seized first place 31 strokes ahead of second place Missouri with a tournament total of 861. Gibby Martens of Texas-San Antonio was the individual medalist with a final score of 210.
The Redbirds swing into action again when they travel to Manhattan, Kan., for the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate October 1-3.
