Redbirds Face Fierce Competition at Eck Classic

With the first tournament of the fall season under its belt, the Illinois State womens tennis team looks to build on their success at the Notre Dame Eck Classic this weekend. Its a good tournament and we look forward to getting to square off against good programs, head coach Chris Hoover said. Were the only team involved without a regional ranking. That says a lot about what they think about us. The field features Notre Dame and Northwestern, the No.1 and No. 2 teams in the Midwest Region. Iowa, Purdue, Marquette, Wisconsin, Western Michigan and DePaul round out the participating schools. Notre Dame, Northwestern, Iowa, Purdue and Marquette were all ranked nationally in the final WingspanBank.com rankings. The Redbird lineup boasts Billiken Fall Classic No. 1 singles bracket winner Alesia Mikalayeva, whose lone loss came during the National Clay Court Championships. Alana Hoffmans record stands at 4-1 while Zana Friganovic, returning from a torn ACL, is 2-1. The No. 3 doubles team of Brigette Zarazee and Shelby Lipson won their flight at the Billiken Fall Classic and have yet to be defeated with a record of 5-0.
