Kristin Munyon scored her second goal of the day at the 107:22 mark in double overtime as Wisconsin-Milwaukee snapped Illinois States three-match winning streak with a 4-3 victory in soccer action from Milwaukee on Friday.
ISU (6-3-0) had out-scored its opponents 8-2 and posted consecutive shutouts during its three-match win streak but fell behind early when Julie Ruma scored on a cross goal at the 15:41 mark of the first half to give UWM (4-5-1) a 1-0 advantage.
ISU responded when Annie Wayland scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season at the 29:24 mark of the first half on an open goal to put the Birds on the board and even the score at 1-1.
UWM regained the advantage when Megan Mann beat ISU goalie Becky Feldman on a cross pass at the 40:46 mark of the opening half.
The Birds stormed into the second half with a quick burst and grabbed the lead on goals two minutes apart by Diana Puckett (4) and Katie Long (1). Pucketts tally was launched from near midfield, beating UWM goalie Kerri St. Aubin to even the score at 2-2 at the 52:30 minute mark. Long broke free from 18 yards and fired her shot past Aubin to notch her first collegiate goal and give the Birds a 3-2 lead.
Munyon evened the slate at 3-3 when she scored the first of her two goals of the match at the 62:58 mark on a header off a corner kick .
The two teams played the equivalent of another half before Munyon added her second goal, the match-winner, at the 107:22 mark in double overtime to end the contest.
The Redbirds return to action Sunday at Wisconsin-Green Bay.
