Illinois State soccer fell to host Purdue, 2-0, in the first round of the 2000 Boilermaker Challenge Cup in West Lafayette, Ind., today.
The Redbirds (1-1) recorded 13 shots, one more than its Big Ten opponent, but could not produce a goal in the the Redbirds first shutout since its 1-0 loss to Illinois on October 24, 1999.
Jennie Moppert scored both goals for the Boilermakers (3-0), connecting on a 2-on-1 breakaway at the 17:26 mark. Moppert connected again in the second half, securing Purdues lead and victory.
Sophomore Annie Wayland, Illinois States leading scorer, recorded four shots in the contest, one on goal. Sophomore Chrystal Johnston notched three.
Redbird goalkeeper Becky Feldmann made six saves in the match while Elizabeth Boldt of Purdue stopped seven Bird shots.
Illinois State will face either Central Michigan or West Virginia in the consolation game of the Purdue Tournament on Sunday, September 3, at 11 a.m.
