Sophomore guard Mariela Miles is taking a leave of absence from the Illinois State University basketball team.
According to Redbird head coach Jenny Yopp, Miles is still on the team, will remain in school and plans to return to the court for the Redbirds next season.
"Mariela is still on the team, still in school, but won't participate the rest of the season," said Yopp. "We look at our players' needs first as people and second as players, and, right now, Mariela is dealing with some personal challenges that are much more important than basketball."
Miles averaged 2.9 points and 1.6 rebounds in seven games this season. She saw action in all 26 games as a freshman, averaging 2.6 points per game.
