Illinois State senior cross country athlete Stacia Beste has been named the Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
Beste, a senior from Shorewood, Wis., placed second individually in the 5K race at the Illini Invitational on Sept. 22. Beste, who carries a cumulative 3.90 grade-point average in psychology, finished one second behind Rachel Evjen of Northwestern in the 15-team event which included Valley members Bradley, Northern Iowa, Southern Illinois and Wichita State.
In addition to Scholar-Athlete of the Week honors, Beste, a two-time Verizon Academic All-American, was also named Valley Cross Country Athlete of the Week.
To qualify for Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
