Illinois State University senior golfer Jill Rachfords dominant first round display left her tied for seventh place at the Eastern Kentucky Fall Invitational Friday. The Redbirds are in sole possession of second place only seven strokes off of the leader, Butler.
Rachfords 80 ushered the Redbird attack as they are in serious contention to challenge for the team title. Freshman Ashlee Johnson also took it upon herself to aid the Birds as she finished the first round with an 81 and tied for 11th place. Senior Sara Prack shot a strong 38 on the back nine to leave her with an 83 and in a tie for the No. 21 spot. Sophomore Albiona Zhubi ended the day tied for 30th and freshman Katie Laehn tied for 37th.
Bulter sits atop a 15-team field with a team score of 322. The Birds trail Butler by seven strokes with a score of 329. The Birds are followed by Eastern Illinois with a score 330. Western Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky share fourth place with a score of 332.
Final round action will take place tomorrow at the Arlington golf course with a shotgun start slated for 9 a.m.
