Valley Honors Wayland as Player of the Week

After becoming the Missouri Valley Conferences all-time leading goal scorer on Sunday, Illinois States Annie Wayland has been selected Valley Soccer Player of the Week for the second straight week. Wayland, a junior hailing from St. Peters, Mo., broke the two-year record for career goals set by former Evansville standout Krissy Meek on Sunday. Sunday afternoons contest with Eastern Illinois saw Wayland tie the record with her 45th goal and break it with her 46th career score, coming off a penalty kick in the second half. The defending Valley Player of the Week, Wayland also had two goals in ISUs 2-1 victory against Creighton on Friday. She has scored two goals in three consecutive games and has scored at least once in the last five Redbird games. Wayland and the Redbirds put their five-game winning streak on the line Tuesday afternoon hosting Western Illinois at 3 p.m. at Adelaide Street Field.
