The Doubles Main Draw at the 2001 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional began today and Illinois States team of Liina Suurvarik and Alesia Mikalayeva put in their usual performance.
ISUs pair of Suurvarik/Mikalayeva beat Illinois team of McGaffigan/Cehajic (8-5) in the first round of the Doubles Main Draw.
Suurvarik and Mikalayeva have their work cut out for them on Saturday. The doubles competition continues at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium, and the Singles Main Draw also begins. Both Suurvarik and Mikalayeva will be competing for individual honors. The tournament runs through Tuesday, Oct.30.
