Illinois States Annie Wayland and Lynley Hilligoss have been selected Valley Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for their performances this past weekend against No. 23 Oakland and Illinois.
Wayland, a junior hailing from St. Peters, Mo., scored two goals in the 3-1 Redbird upset Friday against the Golden Grizzlies. She scored her 14th and 15th goals of the season off assists from teammates Diana Puckett and Kelly Mahan, respectively.
Wayland, the league leader in career goals, has 31 points on the season and 103 for her career. She is three points behind former Evansville standout, Krissy Meek, for the Valley lead for career points.
Hilligoss, a junior from St. Charles, Ill., collected four saves and allowed only one goal against Oakland. Against Illinois Sunday, she stopped seven shots on goal and allowed one goal by the Illini offense in the Redbirds 1-0 loss.
The Redbirds (12-4) finish up the regular season Friday afternoon hosting Wisconsin at 3 p.m. at Adelaide Street Field.
