Top three finishes in all but two events secured the Illinois State swimming and diving team a third place finish in the 37th annual Notre Dame Relays right behind Notre Dame and Pittsburgh on Friday evening.
The meet was dominated by the Fighting Irish who placed first in every event except two, but the Redbirds fought hard for their spot at third.
Two second-place finishes in the 400 medley relay (4:06.81) by Andrea Neubauer, Angie Rawlins, Sara Hayworth and Lindsay Crowder; and the 400 freestyle relay (3:45.16) by Crowder, Brittany Erickson, Hayworth and Deborah Birrer were the highlights of the evening for the Redbirds.
Newcomers Rawlins and Hayworth, who stood out at the intrasquad meet last weekend, proved their abilities once again at their first meet as a Redbird, contributing in five and four events, respectively.
The final scores of the evening were Notre Dame 226, Pittsburgh 166, Illinois State 142, Washington 102, Valparaiso 96, Marquette 58 and St. Marys 54.
