Seniors Stacia Beste, Christian Goy and Robert Breit were named to the 2001 Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country Scholar-Athlete Team following their performances at the MVC Cross Country Championships on Saturday, October 27.
Beste, a psychology major from Shorewood, Wis., was named to the womens first team after claiming first place overall in the 5K championship race. In addition to Beste, nine other women were named to the first team including: Jessica Crowder (Indiana State), Rebecca Kuklenski (Southwest Missouri State), Tracey Bearden (Drake), Helena Dekker (Wichita State), Jessica Donner (Creighton), Rhonda Allen (Southwest Missouri State), Jeri Meyerholtz (Indiana State), Jacki Michaud (Indiana State) and Katie Meehan (Southern Illinois).
Goy, a management major from Rheinsburg, Germany, and Robert Breit, a social sciences major from Skokie, Ill., were named to the mens first team after finishing second and third, respectively, in the 8K championship race. Other runners named to the mens first team include: Balazs Csillag (Northern Iowa), Oliver Bodor (Northern Iowa), Rob Brock (Northern Iowa), Isaiah Stafford (Indiana State), Mark Rode (Indiana State), Blake Boldon (Southwest Missouri State), Josh Crain (Northern Iowa) and Joe Zeibert (Southern Illinois).
The criteria for being named to the Valley Cross Country Scholar-Athlete Team include having a 3.00 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.00 scale). Student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing and have completed at least one full academic year at their insititution. The 10 finishers at the league championship, who meet these criteria, will be named to the first team.
