Freshman Krystal Featherstons first and second place finishes in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives respectively, highlighted the Illinois State swimming and divings first home meet this season against Ball State.
Diving coach Laura Segerlin commented on Featherstons performance saying how tonight was the first meet where it was obvious her all-freshman roster had matured into performing at the collegiate level.
A dive is made up of two parts, the take-off and the finish, said Segerlin. Krystal showed us the great take-offs shes been working on and finally nailed the finishes tonight.
Another Redbird who nailed her best finishes tonight was senior teammate Diana Cirstea. Improving her personal best time in the 100 fly (1:00.3) and her season best time in the 200 fly (2:10.8) gave Cirstea two first place finishes. A third place finish in the 200 IM (2:14.6) was also a season best for Cirstea.
Teammate Angie Rawlins continued Cirsteas success by improving her season best times in the100 breast (1:06.8) for a first place finish and her new season best in the 200 breast (2:26.5) for second place.
Several of the girls set new season bests tonight, said head coach
Steve Paska. From the first event to the last, our team swam some of their best times this season, we just came up a little short in points.
Paska said the score did not indicate how close the meet actually was, and he was proud of the way his swimmers performed. The final score of the meet was Ball State 172, Illinois State 128.
