Ford Signs With Illinois State

Dana Ford, a 6-foot-4, 185-pound guard from Egyptian High School in Tamms, Ill., has signed a national basketball letter of intent with Illinois State. Ford, a three-year starter, heads into his senior season as the schools all-time leading scorer with 1,620 points. He averaged 22.5 points per game the last two seasons, after scoring 14.5 points per contest as a freshman. Last season, he shot 50 percent from the floor and averaged 8.0 rebounds per game. Were excited about adding a player like Dana to our program, Illinois State head coach Tom Richardson said. He brings a wealth of athleticism to our backcourt and has the ability to play multiple positions. The Pharaohs posted a 22-4 mark last season and have a 48-22 record during Fords career. The thing about Dana that I like the most is his ball handling and athletic ability, Richardson added. He has a knack for scoring and can slash to the basket. Ford enjoyed the team atmosphere surrounding the program. For me, I enjoyed the relationship with the players. I felt comfortable around the players and the staff, Ford said. I knew Coach (Anthony) Beane when he was at SEMO and Coach Richardson and I established a good relationship right away. Fords high school coach, Chuck Doty, believes that Richardson and the Redbirds landed a good one. First of all, hes a gentleman and a tremendous athlete. Hopefully hell be a great addition to the fine tradition at Illinois State, Doty said. He really liked the coaching staff and the players. He should fit in well with the program. Hes a slashing type player and has the ability to get the basket. Hes also working on improving his defense and perimeter shooting. Hes the type of guy that can make a lot strides in four years. Immediately, this is what Ford will bring to the Redbirds. I will bring athleticism on the floor, Ford added. Im a versatile player that can play all three guard spots. Im a real good jumper. I placed third in the state slam dunk championship last year, so maybe I can bring a little excitement as well. Richardson added that Ford is the only signee he expected to announce today.
