Rawlins, Norris Lead Birds Past Panthers

Sophomore Heather Norris and junior Angie Rawlins grabbed two and three first-place finishes respectively as the Illinois State swimming and diving team earned their first win of the season, 157-143, against the Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers Sunday afternoon at the Klotsche Center Pool. The Redbirds dominated the meet, winning all but six events in the 16 event format. Special highlights of the meet include Norris two first-place finishes in the 1000 freestyle (10:43.59) and the 500 freestyle (5:15.09). A fourth-place finish in the 200 butterfly (2:15.03) was yet another contribution to the team by Norris. Rawlins, a consistent swimmer for the Birds, pulled in a first place finish in the100 breaststroke (1:07.76), the 100 butterfly (59.58) and the 200 IM (2:13.41). Rawlins is a transfer from University of the Pacific and has routinely led the Redbirds in each meet this season. The Redbirds, now with a 1-1 dual meet record, are currently preparing for the Akron Invitational taking place November 30-December 2.
