Illinois States team of Liina Suurvarik and Alesia Mikalayeva have been ranked No.1 in the Midwest Region.
The fall record for Suurvarik/Mikalayeva has been an exciting one to watch. Theteam took first place honors at the Annual Lobo Invite, the Missouri Valley Conference Championship, and the ITA Regional Championship, earning their chance at a national title. At nationals, Suurvarik/Mikalayeva advanced to the second round where they were defeated by the eventual national champions.
The duo ended the fall season with a 14-3 record, after becoming the first Illinois State womens tennis players to compete for the national title.
