Finan To Join Redbird Swim Team

Katie Finan, a four-year state qualifier at Marquette High School, has signed a national letter of intent to continue her athletic and academic careers at Illinois State University. Finan, who originates from Chesterfield Missouri, is a two-time team state champion, and a three-time state champion in the 400 free relay. In her four years of high school swimming, Finan has placed in the top five in four events at state. This team captain and most valuable swimmer has set three relay records at her high school and is the 200 freestyle conference champion. Head coach Steve Paska believes Finans presence will definately be felt during the upcoming season. Katie has every characteristic that I look for in a student-athlete, said Paska. She is a tremendous student, and a leader by example, both in the classroom and the water, and I feel really good about signing her. The Redbirds will lose seven freestyle swimmers to graduation and Paska will look to Finan to swim freestyle events for Illinois State. She will bring energy and passion to the team in the middle-distance freestyle events, said Paska. Her times now are competitive enough to final in our collegiate meets and she has the ability to swim all freestyle events for us. Finan, a four-year honor roll student and National Honors Society member, will major in elementary education while at Illinois State.
